Khadi Fabric

Out here in Village Chak Guin Para, near Post Islampure, things move a bit slower than in the city. Our place, Khadi Fabric, is right in the heart of the village. We work mostly with hand-spun cloth. It is a traditional way of doing things and it takes a lot of time. You won't find many big machines here. It is more about the looms and the sound of the shuttle going back and forth. The air is different here, more open, but the work is still hard on the back. We get the raw materials and spend our days turning them into something you can actually wear. It is a process that has not changed much in years. My family has lived in this village for a long time, so everyone knows where to find us. Sometimes the power goes out, but since we do a lot of manual work, we can usually keep going for a bit. The fabric has a specific feel to it, a bit rough but it lasts a long time. We do not have a fancy showroom. We just have a room where we keep the finished rolls of cloth stacked up on wooden shelves. Sometimes people from the city come all the way out here to see what we are making. We just offer them some water and show them the looms. It is a simple life, focused on the weave and the quality of the thread.
