Janajibon Mutual Benefits Nidhi Limited is located in Sahebrampur, right near the primary school. We work out of Pijush Debnath’s place in Jalangi. You can usually hear the kids playing during recess while we are trying to balance the books. It’s a very local spot. We don't have a big fancy sign, just a small one so people know they’ve found the right house. The office is really just a room with some sturdy tables and a lot of record books. We spend our time helping the people of Jalangi with their mutual benefit accounts. Most of our members are people we see every day at the market. We don't use much technology; we still like to write things down by hand to make sure they are right. It takes a bit longer, but it feels more reliable to us. The floor is concrete, and we keep the windows open for a breeze. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to hear, but we manage. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a polished look. We just want to make sure the accounts are settled and everyone’s money is where it should be. It is honest work and it keeps us tied to the community here. We’ve been doing this for a while now and hope to keep going. We usually lock up once the school day is long finished.
