Hariyali Rice Mill

Down in Vill- Jarur, near the Jangipur police station in Murshidabad, you’ll find Hariyali Rice Mill. It’s a loud place most days because the machines are usually running. We spend a lot of time covered in a bit of dust, but that’s just the nature of working with grain. This isn't a corporate setup with meetings and powerpoint slides. It’s more about the sound of the mill and the smell of the rice. We work with the local farmers and the people from the surrounding villages. Everyone knows where we are. It’s a practical business. If a machine breaks, we fix it ourselves or call someone down the road who can. The office is just a small room off to the side where we keep the ledgers. We don't really do much advertising because word of mouth in Murshidabad is usually enough. Some days the humidity makes the work a bit harder, but we just push through it. We aren't looking to expand into some giant empire. We just want to keep the mill running and make sure the quality is what it should be. It’s a simple life, focused on the seasons and the crops. When the sun goes down, we lock up the gates and head home, ready to do it all again tomorrow. It’s tiring but it feels good to see the bags of rice loaded up and ready to go out to people who need them.
