Gramen Sahajagita Nidhi Limited is set up in the village of Sahebrampur, right at Mrinmoy Pal’s place. Being in Jalangi, we are pretty far out from the main city buzz, which actually suits us just fine. Most of the people who come to see us are our neighbors or folks from the nearby post office area. We handle the local savings and help people manage their small funds without any of the stress you find at big institutions. The office is simple, just some chairs and a desk where we keep the ledger books. Mrinmoy is usually around if anyone needs to talk about their accounts or just wants to check a balance. It gets quite dusty here in the summer months, but we keep the fans going and get through the day’s work. We don't have any flashy signs or a fancy entrance. People know where we are because they’ve known Mrinmoy for years. Sahebrampur is a place where everyone talks to everyone, so we hear about people's needs over the fence or at the tea stall. Our work is mostly just writing things down and making sure the numbers add up at the end of the week. It’s practical, everyday stuff for the village.
