Dey Enterprise

Dey Enterprise is a small operation we run out of Village Chaltia. Our post office is over in Berhampore, and we are situated quite close to the Union Of India building. It’s a quiet spot compared to the bigger cities, which is nice most of the time. The road leading up to the shop is a bit bumpy, especially after the rains when the mud gets thick. We started this business because we wanted something of our own in the village. We sell various things that the local families need so they don’t have to travel all the way into the main town. The shop is just a single room with a counter and some shelves we built ourselves. We don't have any big signs or neon lights. Usually, someone is just sitting on the bench outside waitin' for a delivery or talking to a neighbor. My uncle helps me with the accounts on the weekends. It’s a very slow-paced life here. We see the same faces every day, and we know who is getting married or who is sick. We don't use any fancy language to describe what we do. We just open the doors, sell our goods, and close up when it gets dark. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use candles or a battery lamp to see the ledger. It’s not a perfect setup, but it’s our own and it works for the people around here in Chaltia. We hope to stay here for a long time.
