Biswas Rice

If you walk past the Berhampore bus stand, you will find us pretty quickly. We are located right near there, which makes it handy for transport. Running Biswas Rice keeps us on our toes because the area is always moving. People are getting on and off buses, and there is a constant noise of horns and shouting. Our space is not huge, but we make use of every inch of it for storage. We spend a lot of time checking the sacks and making sure the rice is dry and ready. It is a lot of heavy lifting, to be honest. My back feels it some days, but that is just part of the trade. We are not interested in making things sound more important than they are. We buy, we store, and we sell. The floor is usually covered in a bit of husk, and the lights flicker every now and then. We have been at this location for a while now, and the neighbors are all good people. Sometimes we sit outside on a stool and watch the crowds go by when things are quiet. There is no big marketing team here, just us trying to make a living in Berhampore. We take the orders as they come and try to be fair with everyone who walks in. It is a simple life, focused on the grain and the people who need it. We just keep our heads down and stay busy with the work.
