We operate Bhagwangola Poddar Construction out of Maheshnarayanganj. It’s a quiet spot compared to the big city, but there is always something that needs building or fixing around here. The office is just a simple room where we keep our tools and some paperwork. We don't really have a regular schedule, we just start when the sun comes up and stop when it gets too dark to see. Most of the people working here have lived in Bhagwangola their whole lives. We know the land and we know how the ground behaves during the heavy rains. Sometimes the mud makes it impossible to move the heavy equipment, so we just have to wait it out. It's part of the job. We don't spend money on advertising because everyone knows the Poddar name in this area. If you do a bad job, word spreads fast, so we make sure things are solid. We handle a lot of brickwork and basic housing. Sometimes we get a bigger project, but we prefer the local ones where we can walk home for lunch. My older brother takes care of the site stuff and I deal with the suppliers. It’s a lot of talking and a lot of dust. We don't have a formal dress code, just boots and old clothes that can get dirty. It’s a practical way to live and we are used to it every day.
