Maruti Saw Mill

We have been here at number 2, Hubbly Road for a good while now. The mill gets pretty dusty by noon most days because the machines are always running. You can smell the wood from the street before you even walk in. We mostly deal with big logs that come in on the trucks and then we cut them down into whatever sizes are needed. It is a messy job but someone has to do it. The saw makes a lot of noise, so we have to shout sometimes to hear each other. Usually, the morning starts with moving the older piles of timber to make space for the new stuff. Our neighbors are used to the sound by now, I think. Some days are slower when the deliveries are late, so we just spend time cleaning the blades or oiling the parts that get stuck. It is just a regular place where we work with our hands and get wood ready for people who are building things. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. Just the main shed and the yard where the wood sits in the sun. Sometimes it rains and we have to rush to cover everything up with plastic sheets. It is just the way it goes here. We try to keep things moving so the yard doesn't get too cluttered with scraps. That's pretty much what happens every day at Maruti Saw Mill. We just keep our heads down and handle the logs as they come in.
