We are located at 193/1 in the Haji Ramzan Chawl. It’s in the Pipe area of Kurla West. If you know Kurla, you know it’s a place that never really stops moving. The shop is small, just a typical space in a chawl. We have our sewing machines and rolls of cloth everywhere. Yusuf has been doing this for a long time. People bring in their fabric and we take their measurements. It’s mostly about getting the fit right and making sure the stitching is strong enough to last. There’s always the sound of the machines whirring and the snip of scissors. It’s a bit dusty with all the thread and fabric bits, but that’s how a tailor shop is supposed to be. We don't have a big fancy window display. People usually find us by word of mouth or because they live nearby in Kurla. We handle all sorts of clothes, from simple repairs to full outfits. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing on the small details. Sometimes the light isn't the best, but we make it work. Customers come in, chat for a bit while we check the progress, and then they go about their day. It’s a very local way of working. We’ve seen many families grow up around here and we still sew for them. It’s just what we do every single day. We don't need much more than our machines and some good thread.
