Worldpack Automation Systems Pvt. Ltd. is tucked away at 116, Ravi Ind Estate on Mahakali Road. If you know Andheri East, you know it’s a maze of industrial buildings and small factories. Our unit is always full of the sound of clicking relays and spinning rollers. We build machines that put labels on bottles and boxes. It’s a lot of stainless steel and sensors. The workshop floor is usually crowded with machines in different stages of being finished. We don't have much in the way of decor. There are some old calendars on the wall and a few shelves for the spare parts. It gets humid in Mumbai, so we keep the big shutters open to get a breeze. We often work late when a deadline is coming up. The tea guy comes around twice a day, which is the highlight of the afternoon. We spend a lot of time testing the timing of the applicators. It has to be just right, or the labels go on crooked. We aren't polished sales people. We are guys who enjoy figuring out how to make a belt move smoother. The office part is just a couple of computers where we handle the billing and orders. It’s a bit cramped, but we make it work. Most of our customers come here to see the machines running before they buy them. We just keep building them one by one.
