Wakefield Calendar Corporation

Wakefield Calendar Corporation has been operating out of Satnam Palace on Clare Road in Byculla for quite some time now. If you know Mumbai, you know Byculla is always moving and always loud. Our office is on the fifth floor, and you can usually hear the street noise even through the windows. The place is packed with stacks of paper, cardboard, and samples of different calendar designs. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes, especially toward the end of the year when things get really busy. We have a few old printing machines that make a lot of noise, and there’s always the smell of ink and glue hanging in the air. We don't have a fancy reception area; visitors usually just walk straight into the workspace where the work gets done. Most of the staff live nearby and have been working here for years. We know each other’s families and share lunch at the big table in the back. It’s a very hands-on job. We spend our days checking proofs, cutting paper, and making sure the binding is right. It’s messy and loud, and there’s always someone shouting over the machines, but we’re used to it. We just focus on getting the calendars out the door so people have them on time. It’s a solid, old-fashioned business in a busy part of the city.
