Umar Garment

You can find Umar Garment right in the middle of National Market, over by Jalela Maidan in Wadala. It’s a busy spot in Prabuddha Nagar, especially around Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road. The market is always crowded, and there is a lot of noise from people shouting and bikes zooming past. Our shop is just one of many in the area, tucked away where we do our daily work. We spend a lot of time surrounded by fabric and thread. Sometimes the floor is covered in scraps because we haven't had a chance to sweep up yet. The rain sometimes leaks through the old roof during the heavy monsoon weeks, so we have to move all the fabric rolls to the center of the room to keep them dry. We aren’t trying to be some high-end fashion house. We just make clothes. It’s what we know. My cousin helps out sometimes, and we usually have tea delivered from the stall around the corner twice a day. The space is a bit cramped, honestly, with all the machines and the boxes stacked up high. We have to move stuff around just to find a place to sit sometimes. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we have a small fan that does its best. We’ve been here in Wadala for quite some time now, and we know most of the other shopkeepers nearby. It’s a community, even if it’s a bit chaotic at times. We just focus on the garments and making sure the orders are ready.
