Our place is tucked away in the Royal Industrial Estate over in Wadala. If you know Naigaum Cross Road, you know how the traffic can get during the rush hour. A-28 is where we spend most of our waking hours. Piri Electrols Pvt. Ltd isn’t a massive corporate office with glass walls or anything like that. It’s a practical space filled with the smell of solder and the sound of machines humming. We’ve got a few desks for the office side of things and then the main area where the actual work happens. The lift in the building is a bit temperamental, so we often just take the stairs. It’s better for getting the blood moving anyway. Most of the staff brings lunch from home, and we all sit around the small table in the back to eat. We talk about local news or whatever’s on TV. It’s a steady environment. We’ve seen the neighborhood change over the years, new buildings going up and old shops closing down, but we’re still here doing our bit with the electrical components. There is always a stack of invoices on the desk that needs sorting and some parts waiting to be packed up. It's not glamorous, but it’s our living. We just focus on getting the orders right and making sure the lights stay on. We have an old ceiling fan that clicks when it’s on the high setting, but it keeps us cool enough when the Mumbai humidity gets really bad.
