We are located at 39/41 on Nagdevi Cross Lane, right on the ground floor. If you’ve ever walked down Nagdevi, you know it’s one of the most crowded lanes in Mumbai. It’s a struggle just to walk through, let alone move goods. We’ve been V. Dipesh Kumar & Co. in this spot for decades. The office is small, and every inch of the walls is covered with shelves or old paperwork. It’s a bit cluttered, but we know exactly where every file is kept. We don’t have an air conditioner, just a couple of old ceiling fans that click while they spin. The air is always thick with the smell of the street and the food being cooked nearby. We spend our days sitting at our wooden desks, writing in ledgers and talking to people who squeeze into the shop. We don’t do any advertising. People find us because they’ve been coming here for years or someone told them where we were. It’s a very manual way of working, but it’s what we know. Sometimes we stand out front just to get a bit of air and watch the world go by. It’s a tough place to work because of the noise and the heat, but it’s our home. We just keep doing what we do every single day and hope for the best.
