Universal Auto Batteries

Universal Auto Batteries is our shop on Pandharinath L Patkar Road. We're at number 30 A in the Bombay Colony section. It's mostly just batteries and cables piled up inside. The air smells a bit like lead and grease but that's normal for what we do. We help people when their cars won't start. It’s greasy work and our hands are usually dirty by noon. We don't have a fancy waiting room. There's just a couple of plastic chairs if you need to sit down for a minute. We've been in this spot for quite a while. Most people in the colony know where to find us. We don't do much talking, just check the voltage and see if the battery needs replacing or just a charge. It can get hot in here during the summer because the ventilation isn't great. We keep a small radio playing in the background to pass the time. Sometimes the rain comes down hard on the roof and it's hard to hear anything else. We just keep working. It’s a simple living. No big sales pitches or anything like that. If your battery is dead, it's dead. We just tell you how it is. It's honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till the sun goes down. We keep a few spare tools around in case a neighbor needs to borrow something.
