Universal Art

You can find us at 2527, Two Tank Qazi Pura, inside the Haji Kassam Building. Universal Art isn't some high-end gallery with white walls and silence. It’s more of a workshop where we’re always making something. There’s usually paint or some kind of dust on the floor. We’ve been here in this old building for a long time, and the walls have a lot of history. It’s a bit of a maze getting here if you aren’t used to the area, but we like it. We handle all sorts of artistic requests, from small pieces to bigger projects that take up half the room. We don’t have a marketing department or a fancy website. Most people find us because they heard about us from someone else in the neighborhood. We work with our hands mostly. Some days the ideas come easy and other days we just stare at the materials for a while. It’s a real place with real people who just happen to be good at making things. We don't worry about being the most modern shop around. We just care about the work itself. If the lights are on, someone is probably in the back working on a frame or a canvas. It’s messy, it’s loud sometimes, but it’s our life. We’ve got stacks of old projects in the corner and sometimes we forget where we put a specific tool, but we always find it eventually. It's just home.
