Tulsidas Khimji Pvt Ltd has its office in the Islam Building. We are on the second floor, right across from where Akbarallys used to be in the Fort area. This is the heart of old Mumbai, so the building is old and has those high ceilings and thick walls. The address is 46 Veer Nariman Road. If you walk outside, you are right in the middle of all the noise and the people rushing to catch trains or get to meetings. The office has a very traditional feel to it. We have heavy wooden desks and old windows that look out onto the busy street below. You can hear the taxis honking and the buses passing by all day. It is a bit dusty because of the city air, but there is a lot of history in these walls. We don't have a modern open-plan layout; it is more like a series of rooms filled with people working on their tasks. We have been here for a very long time and the routine stays pretty much the same. We start in the morning, deal with the paperwork, and take our tea breaks when the chai wallah comes around. Fort is a great place to work because everything is close by, even if it is a bit crowded. It is a straightforward operation without any of the fancy corporate stuff you see in the new suburbs.
