Top Boy

We operate out of Dholakwala Chawl in Dadar West. It’s unit C-14 on B. S. Road. If you know Dadar, you know how packed it gets. This chawl has been here forever. Our space is small and we’ve had to be clever with how we use the walls for storage. It’s not a showroom or anything like that. It’s just where we work. There are always people walking past the door and the sound of the street is constant. We like being in the heart of the city though. Everything is close by. We’ve been running Top Boy from here for some time. It's a simple life. We start early before the heat gets too bad. The neighbors are mostly families or other small workshops. We all know each other. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps for a break. We don't have fancy websites or big ads. We just do our bit and people seem to find us. The building is old and the stairs are steep. We carry everything up and down by hand. It keeps us moving. We don't try to be something we are not. It's just a small business in a busy part of Mumbai. We take things one day at a time and try to stay busy. It’s honest work and we are happy with our spot here. Sometimes the monsoon makes the walls a bit damp, but that’s just part of living in an old chawl. We wouldn’t move anywhere else.
