If you come down L.B.S. Marg in Bhandup West, you’ll find us in the Bharat Industrial Estate. We’re at number 116. It’s a typical industrial area, so there’s always a bit of grease and the sound of machines coming from the other units. Inside our space, things are a lot quieter because we deal with watches. You can hear the tiny ticking sounds if it’s a slow afternoon. We spend a lot of time hunched over workbenches with those little magnifying glasses. It’s hard on the eyes, and your neck starts to ache after a few hours, but we’re used to it. The estate can get pretty dusty, so we have to be careful to keep the workspace as clean as possible for the movements and the glass. Outside, the road is always packed with cars and buses, so the walk to the station at the end of the day is a bit of a trek. We’ve been here at Timex for quite a while, and some of the staff have been sitting at the same benches for years. It’s a steady kind of life. We don't have any big flashy showrooms here; it’s mostly just the technical side of things. We focus on getting the pieces back together and making sure everything is timed right. Sometimes a part is stubborn, and it takes all afternoon just to fix one small issue. The light from the windows helps, but we mostly rely on our lamps.
