Working out of Bombay House at 24 Homi Mody Street in Fort is something else. It’s a very old and famous building, but when you are inside every day, it just feels like home. The walls are thick and the hallways have that old-fashioned smell of paper and wood. Even though the name is big, our daily life here is just about getting the work done. Fort is a crowded part of Mumbai, and the streets are always full of people rushing to their offices. We see it all from the windows. It’s not all shiny like you see in the magazines. There are piles of files on the desks and people arguing about where the stapler went. We drink a lot of tea and try to keep up with the schedule. The building has a lot of history, but we’re more focused on what’s happening this afternoon. Getting lunch around here is great because there are so many small stalls, though the monsoon rains make the walk a bit messy. We’ve been at this address for a long time. It’s a bit of a walk from the station, but it’s a good way to wake up in the morning. Sometimes the elevators are slow, so we just take the stairs to get to the different departments. It’s just a group of people trying to keep things moving in a very busy city.
