Our place is right in the middle of Zaveri Bazar, which as anyone knows, is one of the most crowded and energetic spots in all of Mumbai. We are tucked away in Silver Mansion on Dhanji Street. If you climb up to the second floor, room number sixteen, that is us. It is an old building, the kind where you really feel the history of the market. Dealing with synthetic fabrics in a place like Mumbadevi means there is always noise and people moving fast. We handle a lot of different synthetic materials and the shop is usually piled high with rolls of fabric. It is not a place for someone who likes quiet. We spend our mornings checking the new arrivals and the afternoons are for the regular customers who have been coming to this lane for years. The stairs are narrow and the hallways are thin, but that is just how it is in this part of town. We are right there in the heart of Mandvi. Sometimes the traffic outside makes getting deliveries in a real headache, but we manage. We don’t have a big corporate structure here. It is just a few of us making sure the synthetic stock is right and the orders get shipped out to the tailors and wholesalers who need them. It is honest work in a very old, very busy part of the city.
