Our office is in the Sonawala Building on Bombay Samachar Marg, right in the heart of Fort. If you have ever been to this part of Bombay, you know how the old buildings look. We are on the second floor at number 65. The stairs are narrow and a bit worn down from years of people walking up and down them. It is a trading business, so it’s mostly about being on the phone and handling documents all day. The windows look out onto the street, and the noise from the traffic and the people below never really stops. It can be quite distracting, but after a few weeks, you just stop hearing it. The rooms have high ceilings, and we have stacks of files everywhere because we have been operating here for a long time. Space is tight, so we have to be smart about where we put things. Lunch usually comes from one of the local places nearby or we bring dabbas from home and eat at our desks. It is a very traditional way of working. There is a lot of history in these walls, and you can feel it. we aren't trying to be modern or fancy; we just keep the books straight and make sure our clients get what they need. The lift in the building is old and sometimes it doesn't work, so we end up getting some exercise on the stairs.
