We are over at D-39 in the TTC Industrial Area, right in MIDC Turbhe. It’s a cold place, literally. Since we handle cold storage, we spend half our lives in heavy jackets even when it’s boiling outside in Navi Mumbai. The hum of the refrigeration units is the background music of our lives. It never stops. If it did, we’d be in big trouble. We store a lot of different food items for different people. Trucks come and go at all hours of the day and night. The loading dock is always busy. We have to keep track of temperatures constantly. It’s a lot of checking gauges and marking things down on clipboards. The air inside the units is crisp and smells like frozen vegetables sometimes. Outside the cold rooms, it’s the usual humid MIDC weather. We’ve been in Turbhe for a long time. We know the truck drivers and the guys at the other warehouses nearby. It’s a bit of a maze here in TTC, but we’re used to it. The office is small and just has the basics. We don't need much space. Just a desk and some chairs. We focus on keeping everything frozen or chilled like it's supposed to be. It’s a responsibility we take seriously, even if we don’t talk about it in a big way. We just keep an eye on the power and the compressors. That’s what we do day in and day out. It's cold work, but someone has to do it.
