Skyway Construction

If you go down to 42 Walkeshwar Road, you’ll find the Desai Building. We are up on the first floor. It’s an old Mumbai building, the kind with thick walls and high ceilings that keep the place relatively cool, though we still need the fans going. This is where Skyway Construction is based. Being in South Mumbai, specifically Walkeshwar, we are right in the middle of everything. You can smell the sea when the wind blows the right way, but mostly you just hear the cars on the road. The office is a bit cluttered with blueprints and samples, and the furniture has seen better days, but it’s comfortable for us. We don't spend much time worrying about how the place looks to outsiders. We are more focused on the actual construction work and making sure the sites have what they need. Our days are long, and we usually end up staying late to finish the paperwork that piles up. There is a lot of back and forth between us and the contractors. We don't have any polished speeches about what we do. We just build things and try to make sure they stay standing. It’s a lot of hard work and not much glamour, which is fine by us. We’ve been at this for a while now in this same building and we know the neighborhood like the back of our hands.
