If you come down to the Laxmi Industrial Estate on Link Road, you’ll find us at 34-Q. This part of the area is always moving. There’s always a truck unloading something or a forklift buzzing around nearby. At Shivam Narrow Fabrics, the main thing you hear is the sound of the machines. They have a specific rhythm that you stop noticing after an hour. We make various types of narrow fabrics, which means the floor is often covered in little threads and scraps of material. We try to sweep it up, but it always comes back. The space is a bit industrial, with high ceilings and metal beams. We have big spools of yarn stacked up against the walls. It’s a very hands-on environment. My hands are usually a bit rough from handling the fibers all day. We take our breaks together, sitting on some of the crates or on the plastic chairs near the door. The Link Road traffic is a nightmare during rush hour, so most of us try to get in early or stay a bit late to avoid the worst of it. It’s a hardworking place. There’s no fancy lobby or receptionist. You just walk in and see people working. We focus on the looms and the quality of the weave. It’s honest work that requires a lot of attention to detail, even if the building itself looks a bit old. We just keep the machines running and the orders moving out.
