If you come down to Dharavi, near the Municipal Chawl, you’ll find us at Kennedy Chawl No.1. We are in Room No.4. It’s a very small space, but that’s how things are in this part of Mumbai. We just call ourselves Shipping because that is exactly what we do. The area is always noisy and full of life, with people walking by and kids playing in the lanes. Our office is just a room with a couple of desks and a lot of files stacked up. We deal with all the paperwork that comes with moving goods through the port or across the country. It’s a lot of sitting in the heat with a small fan going, trying to get all the entries right. We don't have any corporate slogans. We just know how the system work here. People come to us because we are right in the neighborhood and we don't charge for things they don't need. It’s a very local operation. We spend most of the day talking to agents and checking on vessel schedules. Mumbai is a tough city, and working in Dharavi means you have to be practical. We don't have any polished presentations. We just have our ledgers and our phones. It’s a busy life, but we like being right in the middle of it all. We just focus on getting the shipping documents finished so the goods can move out.
