Operating as Shapoorji Pallonji & Com Ltd out here in Wadi, Maharashtra, we see a lot of industrial activity every day. It’s a busy area and the noise from the nearby roads never really stops. Our office is right in the thick of it. It’s not the cleanest place in the world because of all the trucks passing by, but we like being where the action is. Most of us have been in this industry for a long time, so we don't mind the grit. We spend a lot of time on the floor or out at the sites nearby. It’s mostly just making sure the orders are right and the schedules are being met. We don't have any big corporate slogans hanging on the walls. Instead, we have calendars with notes scribbled all over them and stacks of delivery slips. The tea boy comes around twice a day, and that’s usually when we actually sit down for five minutes. It’s a straightforward life. We deal with the rain when it comes and the heat when it doesn't. Sometimes the internet goes down and we have to do everything by hand, which reminds us of how things used to be. It’s not always easy, but it’s honest work and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of Wadi. We just keep our heads down and get the tasks done one by one. The neighbors are mostly other workshops, so it feels like a community.
