Shairu Gems

Shairu Gems is up in Prasad Chambers, specifically in rooms 602 and 603. We are located in the Opera House area, which is the heart of the diamond district in Mumbai. It’s a very specific kind of place to work. You have to go through security downstairs, and the elevators are always packed with people in a hurry. Once you get up to the sixth floor, things feel a bit more contained. Our rooms are bright because we need the light for our work, but they aren't exactly spacious. We have tables lined up where people sit for hours, focusing on small details. There is a lot of quiet conversation and the sound of people working with their hands. We keep the doors locked for obvious reasons, so it’s a very controlled environment. We have some cabinets along the walls to store our equipment and files. The view from the window is just other office buildings, but you can feel the energy of the city even from up here. We don't have a big fancy sign or a lounge. It's mostly just workstations and a small area where we can sit and have a cup of water or tea. Most of us have been coming to this same building for years, so we know the lift operators and the other people on our floor. It’s a steady, focused way to spend a day in this part of Mumbai.
