Our office is tucked away at 20 Famous Studio Lane, right off Dr. E.Moses Road in Mahalaxmi. It’s a busy part of town, but we’ve gotten used to the noise over the years. At SANJAY PURI ARCHITECTS, things get pretty hectic with all the drawings spread out across the big tables and people arguing over where a specific wall should go or how a window should look. We spend a lot of time looking at blueprints and then going out to building sites to see if what we drew actually works in the real world. Sometimes it does, and sometimes we have to change things on the fly because a pipe is in the wrong spot or the ground isn't as level as the map said it was. It’s a lot of sitting in front of screens and then walking around in dusty construction zones with hard hats on. The studio feels lived-in, with coffee cups everywhere and rolls of paper stacked in all the corners. We’re not the type to wear suits every day. Most of us just wear whatever is comfortable for climbing around a skeleton of a building or standing in the mud. Mahalaxmi is a good spot for us because it’s central, even if the traffic on E.Moses Road is a nightmare most afternoons. We just keep our heads down and try to get the work done right. It’s not always glamorous like people think architecture is. It’s mostly just problem-solving and making sure things are built properly. We’ve been at this for a bit now.
