We've been at Gala No. 20 in the Wajid Ali Compound for a while now. It’s right near the Jagannath Temple, so we hear the morning sounds from there when we open up. Most days start with moving the raw materials around to make space. It’s a bit tight in here sometimes, but we manage. We spend our time welding frames and stretching fabrics for canopies. It gets hot under the roof in the afternoons, especially during the summer months. There’s always a lot of dust from the road outside, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. Neighbors stop by to chat sometimes while we're working on a big piece. We don't have a big office or anything, just the workshop floor and our tools. If you’re looking for us, look for the big blue gates near the temple. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to move the finished stuff out, so we have to watch the clouds. We keep a small kettle in the corner for tea because we need it to keep going through the long shifts. It’s honest work and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the compound. People know us by the sound of the machines running until late. We just focus on getting the measurements right and making sure the fabric doesn't tear. It's not fancy here, but the work gets done and we've stayed in this spot because it's convenient for the transport trucks to find us. Usually, we end the day by sweeping up the metal shavings.
