S Kantilal & Co has been sitting on this corner of Jitekar Wadi for a long time. Being right opposite the Jain temple means we hear the bells every day. It’s a busy spot here on Thakurdwar Road. Our office at number 90 isn't very modern, but it does what it needs to do. Most of us have worked here for years and we know the street like the back of our hand. We deal with customers and paperwork all through the morning and afternoon. Sometimes the shop next door shares tea with us. It’s a tight space with lots of files stacked up on the counters. We don't really have a lobby or anything, people just walk in off the street. The floor is old tile and it creaks a bit in certain spots. We spend a lot of time on the phone or writing out lists. It’s not a quiet place, especially when there’s a festival at the temple across the way. We keep the doors open usually to let some air in. Everyone knows where we are because of the landmark. There isn't much to say about the decor because there isn't any. It’s just desks and chairs and the smell of old paper. We just handle the business as it comes. It's a simple way of working. Most people who come in are regulars we’ve known forever. We don’t try to be something we aren’t. We just show up and do the work. We stay until the sun goes down and then lock up for the night.
