We’ve been here at ANSA Industrial Estate for a while now. It’s a busy spot on Saki Vihar Road. The machines make a lot of noise every day, but that’s just how it is when you’re working with paper. We spend most of our time dealing with rolls of stock and cutting things to size. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the estate traffic, which is a bit of a headache for everyone. My desk is usually covered in offcuts and samples that I need to sort through. It isn’t a fancy office, just a practical space where we get the work done. The guys in the back know the machines inside out. We don’t have much time for small talk when there’s a big order of sheets to get out. You can hear the hum of the fans going all day. Sometimes we have tea brought in from the stall outside. It’s just us here, making sure the paper looks right and gets packed into the crates correctly. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but the floor is always kept clear for the pallets. Most days are long, especially when a machine needs a quick fix or the supply of raw material is a bit late arriving at the gate. We just keep at it, stack by stack, until the job is finished and the shutters go down for the night.
