Being on S V Road in Kandivali East means there’s never a quiet moment. The traffic outside is constant and you can hear the horns all day long. We spend our mornings getting the cakes ready for the evening rush. Birthdays are the big thing here, so there’s always someone coming in asking for a last-minute name to be written on a cake in chocolate. We have a small team and we all do a bit of everything, from cleaning the floor to boxing up orders. The boxes are stacked high in the corner because we go through them so fast every day. Sometimes the fridge makes a weird humming sound but it keeps everything cool so we don't mess with it. We’ve been at this location for a good while and we know the other shop owners on the block. It’s a tight space and when more than four customers come in at once, it feels crowded. We try to keep the glass clean but fingerprints happen all the time. It’s a busy life, especially during the festival seasons when everyone wants something sweet for their home. We don't do much advertising, people just see the sign while they're stuck in traffic and stop by. The light in the back room is a bit dim so we have to be careful when we’re decorating the sponges. It’s just a normal cake shop where we work hard every day to keep things moving. We stay open late most nights because that is when people finally get home.
