Renu Kankani

I’m over in Kandivali East, specifically in the Challenger Buildi at flat 301. Renu Kankani is basically just me and a couple of others helping out with the daily tasks. Working from an apartment means things stay pretty personal and relaxed. The living room is mostly where everything happens, with desks pushed up against the walls. It’s a bit of a climb up to the third floor, but the view of the neighborhood is okay. We started doing this a while back because we genuinely liked the work and wanted a quiet place to focus. It’s not some big corporate setup with a receptionist or a waiting room. Usually, the phone rings and I just pick it up myself while I’m working. We keep our files organized on a couple of old desks near the window where the light is better. Sometimes the doorbell rings when we’re right in the middle of a big project. That’s just life when you run a business in a residential building. We know our neighbors and they know us, so it feels like a real community. Most of the people who come to see us are from around this part of Kandivali or heard about us through a friend. It’s a practical way to work without all the unnecessary overhead of a big commercial office. We just do what needs doing every day and keep the place running. It’s a bit cramped sometimes, but it works for us. We just keep at it every day.
