Being on Lamington Road is something else. Our office is 404 in Kartar Mansion, which is on Tribhuvhan Road. If you’ve ever been to this part of Mumbai, you know it’s a total madhouse. There are boxes piled up everywhere and people darting around with carts full of electronics. Regency Semiconductors has been in this building for years. The lift is old and sometimes it’s faster to just walk up the four floors, though you’ll be sweating by the time you reach the top. Inside, it’s a bit quieter than the street, but not much. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling packed with small plastic bags and components. It’s hard to keep everything organized when new stock arrives every other day, but we manage. My cousin helps with the accounts and I handle the suppliers. We drink a lot of coffee because the days get long, especially when a shipment is delayed. The windows don’t open much because of the noise outside. It’s a crowded space and we are always shuffling chairs to make room for visitors. We don’t have a polished showroom. It’s just a place where we do business and try to keep track of thousands of different parts. Most of our regular customers have been coming here since the early days. We know their names and how they like their tea when they stop by to pick up an order.
