You can find R. T. Diamond Ltd. in room 714 of Prasad Chambers. That’s at Opera House, which everyone knows is the heart of the diamond trade here. Being on the seventh floor, we are away from the street noise but the building itself is always buzzing with people moving between offices. It’s a specific kind of world inside these walls. Our office is small. We have these big windows because you need that natural light to really see what you’re looking at. We spend hours with our loupes, checking for flaws or color in the stones. It’s quiet work, very focused. We don’t have a lot of walk-in traffic like a regular store. Most people come here by appointment or because they’ve known us for a long time. There are piles of little paper packets on the desks, each one holding something different. We have a small tea machine in the corner and a few old plants that someone forgets to water. It’s just us doing our job. We aren’t trying to be the biggest or the loudest in the building. We just want to get the sorting right and make sure the trades go smoothly. The elevator in Prasad Chambers can take forever, so we’ve learned to be patient. It’s just how life is in the diamond district.
