R E Karkaria & Co

We’re over at Yusuf Mansion, right on the first lane of Khetwadi Back Road. It’s a bit of an old building, but it has character. Being opposite Dreamland Theatre means there’s always something happening outside, and the Katepuram Chowk area is usually pretty packed with people. At R E Karkaria & Co, we’ve been occupying room 204 for a long time. The office is full of old ledgers and files because we still like to keep things on paper sometimes. It’s a small space, so we have to be careful not to trip over each other. We handle a variety of things, mostly related to trade and paperwork. It’s the kind of work that requires a lot of patience and looking at small details. We don't have a fancy lobby or a coffee machine for guests. If you come in, you’ll probably just see us hunched over our desks. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the decades. The theater across the street has seen better days, but we’re still here doing what we’ve always done. We don't really advertise or try to get more customers than we can handle. We just take care of the people who have been coming to us for years. It’s a quiet life inside the office, even if it’s noisy out on the street. We just keep our heads down and get the filing done. It’s not very exciting but it’s what we know how to do best.
