In the middle of the chaos that is Zaveri Bazar, we have our office in the Ustad Building on S.M. Street. Being at 108112 means we are right where all the action is when it comes to gold and jewelry. The street is so narrow that you can barely walk during peak hours, and there's always a motorcycle trying to squeeze past. Inside, things are a bit more controlled, but it’s still a busy environment. We spend our days looking at tiny details and weighing things on digital scales. There’s a lot of security around because of what we handle, so it’s not the kind of place where you just wander in for a casual look. We deal with other traders and craftsmen mostly. The office has high counters and bright lights so we can see what we’re doing clearly. It’s hard work on the eyes after a few hours. We don't use fancy words to describe what we do; it’s just about getting the purity and the weight right. Lunch is usually eaten at our desks because there’s too much going on to leave for long. We’ve seen the market go up and down over the years, and we just keep doing our part. It’s a specialized trade, and we’ve learned it by doing it day in and day out, following the old ways of the bazaar.
