We are based out of Sakinaka in Andheri East, which is a pretty crowded part of the city for any business. There is always something happening on the streets outside our windows. Our office deals with various goods coming and going for the export trade. It’s a lot of paperwork and checking different boxes to make sure things actually get where they need to be on time. Since we are in an industrial area, we get a lot of noise from the nearby shops and the heavy traffic. It’s not the quietest place to sit and work, but it feels right for an import-export business like ours. We spend a lot of our time on the phone talking to different people and trying to coordinate all the moving parts. Sometimes the shipments get delayed at the port and we have to sit and figure out why. It can be a bit stressful, but that’s just how this kind of business works. We don’t have a big fancy lobby or a receptionist. It’s just a functional space with metal desks and files piled everywhere. Most of the people we work with are other local businesses around Andheri. We’ve lived and worked in this area for a long time, so we know the shortcuts and the people around the block. It’s a busy life here in Sakinaka. We just try to stay on top of the daily orders and make sure the documents are in the right order. It’s nothing glamorous, just moving stuff from one place to another.
