About Prakash Keshav Naik – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Mumbai
I run things out of Flat No C/302 in Harshad Apartments, which is located in Chembur. It is a quiet enough building most days, though you can hear the kids playing in the compound once school lets out. Using a flat as an office has its ups and downs. It feels more comfortable than a cold commercial building, but space can get a little tight when the files start stacking up. I’ve lived and worked around Chembur for a long time, so I know the area like the back of my hand. The flat has a small balcony where I go to clear my head for a few minutes when things get a bit hectic. It isn't a corporate setup by any means. There’s no receptionist or a fancy lobby downstairs. You just come up to the third floor and ring the bell. Usually, I am the one who answers. I keep my own hours mostly, though I try to be available when people need things done. Most of the furniture is just stuff I’ve collected over the years. It is functional and it serves its purpose. I don't really bother with big signs outside either. People who need to find me usually have the address written down on a scrap of paper or saved on their phones. It’s a simple way to work, and I like the quiet. Being in a flat means the space feels more personal than a rented cubicle in some glass tower.
