Powerhouse Gym

Powerhouse Gym is located at 42 Krishna Hindu Merchant Club, right on Bellev Chowpathy Road. We are tucked behind Wilson College, so we get a lot of students walking in between their classes or after they finish for the day. Being at Girgaon Chowpatty means we get that salty sea breeze coming in through the windows, which is nice but also makes the metal equipment rust if we don't stay on top of the cleaning. It’s an old building, so it has that classic Mumbai feel that you don't see much anymore. We don't have the newest digital machines with screens, but the iron weights here have seen a lot of use over the years. People come here to actually train, not just to sit on their phones. The traffic on the road outside is always humming, and you can hear the horns from the street quite clearly. We keep things pretty basic. There’s a rack for weights and some benches that have been here for a long time. It’s a bit crowded during the evenings when the college lets out, but everyone finds a way to share the space. We don’t have a marketing team or anything like that. It’s just a gym where we know most of the regulars by their first name. If you want a place that feels like the old days of lifting in Mumbai, this is pretty much it. We just keep the doors open and let people do their work.
