Bayer Crops Sciences is based out in Hiranandi Garden, over in Powai. It is a fairly nice part of town, quite different from the busier industrial zones further out. We have an office here where we handle the administrative side of crop science. Even though we are in a more modern building with gardens around, the work is still about the basics of farming and plants. We spend our days looking at data and coordinating with people who are actually in the fields. It is a lot of paperwork and computer time for us. The office has a few plants in the corners to remind us of what we actually do. You can see the tall buildings of Powai from the windows. It is a quiet place to work compared to the street markets or factories. We have a small kitchen area where we make coffee and talk about the latest reports we have received. It is not a place for flashy presentations or corporate speeches. We just focus on the science and the logistics of the crops. Sometimes the elevators are a bit slow, so we end up waiting around in the lobby for a while. We are just a group of people working on agricultural solutions in the middle of a big city. It feels a bit odd to talk about soil while looking at pavement, but that is our setup in Hiranandi Garden.
