We sit in room 4/4 of the Santoshimata Chawl. It’s on P.P Road in Andheri East. Right behind Sona Udyog. It’s a tight space, but we make it work. This is where we handle our services. Mumbai-69 is a crowded place. There’s always someone coming in or out. We focus on medical matters and people. It’s community stuff. The chawl is old but it has a lot of life. You hear the neighbors and the traffic from the road all the time. We aren't a big hospital. We are just a small unit trying to help out with health programs. Sometimes the monsoon makes the road messy. We keep our files in metal cabinets to keep the damp out. It’s practical work. We talk to people about their families and wellness. No big speeches. Just simple talk. The location is convenient for the folks living around here. They know where we are. Behind Sona Udyog is a good landmark. We’ve been here for a bit now. The walls could use a new coat of paint, but the work is more important than the decor. We spend most of the day on the phone or talking to visitors. It’s a humble spot for the kind of work we do. We share the floor with other families and small setups. It gets noisy during the evenings when everyone is home. We just keep our door open for whoever needs to stop by. We've been here for years.
