Poonamsons is located on the first floor in Masjid Bunder West. If you’ve ever been to Masjid Bunder, you know exactly what the atmosphere is like. It’s incredibly crowded, loud, and full of energy every single day. Our building is one of the older ones in the area, and the staircase up to the first floor is narrow and well-worn. Once you’re inside our space, it’s a bit quieter than the street, but you can still feel the pulse of the market below. We have boxes stacked high and desks that have seen better days. It’s a real working environment where stuff actually happens. We don’t have fancy signs or a big lobby. Most of the time, we’re busy talking to people or checking on inventory. The streets outside are a maze of handcarts and delivery trucks, and that’s just how business is done here. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for years and we’ve seen it change, yet somehow stay exactly the same. It’s a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business. We share tea with the neighbors and complain about the rain when the monsoon hits. It’s not a glamorous place to work, but it’s ours. We just show up every morning, open the shutters, and start the day’s work alongside everyone else in the Bunder.
