I’m working as a plumbing supervisor over in Dharavi, Mumbai. My space is in Block No:12, Room No:E/6 at the Transit Camp. If you know Mumbai, you know Dharavi is always moving and always crowded. Living and working in the transit camp means you are never far from the action. I spend most of my time walking between different rooms and blocks checking on the water lines. It’s 400017, right in the heart of the city. There’s always a leak somewhere or a drain that needs clearing. I manage a small crew of guys. We don't have a big office with air conditioning. We just meet up in the morning near the room and figure out which block needs us most. The heat in Mumbai can be pretty bad, especially inside the smaller buildings, but we’re used to it. My job is to make sure the work gets done and the pipes are fixed properly. I’ve been in the plumbing line for a long time. People here know me and they stop me in the street to tell me about a problem they’re having. It’s a busy life, and I’m on my feet most of the day. We don't have any fancy brochures or websites. We just show up with our tools and get to it. It’s the only way to work in a place as busy as this. That's just the daily routine for us.
