Parekh Novelties

Our shop, Parekh Novelties, is at 495 Apmc Market Road in Kalbadevi, right opposite the old Edward Cinema. It’s a very crowded area, and the street is always full of people looking for a bargain or just passing through to the market. We sell novelties and all sorts of small items, so the shop is packed from floor to ceiling. There’s hardly any room to move sometimes because we try to fit so much on the shelves. It’s a bit of a jumble, but we usually know exactly where everything is hidden. The cinema across the road brings in a lot of foot traffic, especially in the evenings. We’ve been in this building for years, and it has a lot of character, even if the walls are a bit cracked and the paint is peeling in spots. You can hear the shouting of vendors and the honking of bikes all day long. It’s a lively place to work. We don’t really have a big staff, just us behind the counter helping whoever walks in. Sometimes it’s a kid looking for a toy and other times it’s someone looking for a specific little household item. We don't do any big advertising. People just see the sign and come in. It’s a bit dusty and cramped, but it’s our corner of Kalbadevi and we wouldn't have it any other way. It feels like the real heart of the city right here.
