Down here on Akurli Road in Kandivli East, things stay pretty busy throughout the day. This building has seen a lot of years. At Otis Elevator Company (India) Ltd., we mostly focus on the technical side of keeping things moving. People think about elevators as just buttons and boxes, but there is a lot of heavy lifting and grease involved behind the scenes. Our office and work area are practical. We have technicians coming in and out at all hours, grabbing tools or checking schedules. Kandivli can be a bit crowded, especially during the rush, but we are used to the pace by now. We don't spend much time on fancy decorations or anything. The walls have charts and safety reminders instead. Most of the guys here have been working with elevators for a long time, so they know the sounds a motor makes when it’s not happy. It’s a lot of manual work and coordination. We keep track of parts and make sure the vans are loaded correctly. Sometimes it’s quiet when everyone is out on calls, and other times it’s a madhouse. We just take it as it comes. It is an honest living, making sure people can get to their floors without having to think about it. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for a long stretch, and we just keep doing what we do every day.
