We run Optima Home Appliances out of a flat in Malad East. It’s in the Chitrawani housing society, specifically flat 624 in the A1 block. If you know Pimpripada, you know it’s a packed area with a lot of families and constant activity. Space is tight in Mumbai, so we make do with what we have here. Our living room is basically our office. There are boxes of spare parts and appliances everywhere you look. We spend a lot of time on the phone coordinating with technicians and customers. It’s a busy life. My wife helps with the accounts, and I handle the rest of the daily stuff. We don't have a showroom with bright lights or sales people. We just fix things and get them back to people who need them. Most of our work comes from the nearby buildings. People know us because we’ve been in this society for years. It’s not a fancy corporate life, but it pays the bills and keeps us busy. Sometimes the rain makes it really hard to get around Malad, but we still try to get the work done. We deal with all sorts of home machines. It’s a lot of troubleshooting and finding the right parts. We don't have a marketing team at all. Our name gets around by word of mouth. We just keep things honest and work from home like many others in this city. It’s a simple life, and we like being our own bosses.
