We are based over in Malad West, specifically on the first floor of Kamal Kunj on Ramchandra Lane. Nitee Parulekar Architects is a smallish team, and we’ve been working out of this Mumbai office for quite some time now. The street outside can get pretty noisy with all the traffic, but inside we just focus on the drawings and the plans. We spend a lot of our hours looking at blueprints and trying to figure out how to fit everything into the tight spaces you get in this city. It’s a lot of back and forth with clients and builders. Sometimes the coffee machine breaks or we run out of plotter paper right when a deadline is coming up, which is always a bit of a mess. We don't have a big reception area or anything like that. It’s mostly just desks covered in rolls of paper and a few computers that have seen better days. Being in Malad means we are close to a lot of our projects, which helps when we need to run out and check how the construction is actually looking compared to the sketches. It’s a practical way to work. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years from our windows. Most days are just spent trying to solve problems on paper before they become real problems on the ground. It isn't always glamorous work, but it’s what we do here every day until the sun goes down.
