We are located in the same spot as some other folks, right in Kennedy Chawl No.1, Room No.4 in Dharavi. Nilja Shipping is a small team working out of this one room near the Municipal Chawl. Mumbai is a crowded place, and Dharavi is even more so, but it’s where we do our business. Our room is packed with folders and a few computers. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, but we just keep the door open for a bit of a breeze. We handle shipping logistics, which mostly means a lot of coordination between different parties. We don't have a big sign outside or a fancy receptionist. You just walk in and we’re right there at our desks. We know the people in the chawl and they know us. Most of our work is done over the phone or by sending someone down to the offices near the docks. It’s a lot of back-and-forth, making sure the cargo is cleared and the containers are moving. We don't use any complicated business talk. We just tell you what the situation is with your shipment. It’s a very hands-on kind of job. Sometimes the Mumbai rains make the lanes outside pretty messy, but we still make it into the office. We’ve been in this room for a while now, and we just keep doing our thing, one shipment at a time.
